The world

The Resonance

The Resonance is a world threaded by music, and a world recovering from the Discordance: a catastrophe that broke that thread. The wilderness is louder than it should be. Outposts hold the weave together by living and listening, day after day.

Five regions

Each is anchored in a real musical tradition.

Every region of The Resonance keeps its own way of listening. The boundaries between them are as much sonic as geographic.

The Hum Carnatic and Hindustani traditions. Tanpura outpost is here.
The Rush Iberian flamenco and palmas: bright, urgent, footworked.
The Chorus West African polyrhythm and call-and-response.
The Lull Celtic airs and slow airs: contemplative, weather-shaped.
The Swell European classical: large rooms, large grief, careful joy.

Sparks & Echoes

Companions, briefly.

Sparks are companion beings that bond with humans. They grow alongside their partner; each major step in that growth is called a Crescendo. Eventually a Spark reaches the Rest. What carries forward is an Echo: a melody and personality seed shaped by the bond, sometimes inherited by the next Spark a person meets.

Echoes, the game series, takes its name from this. Each entry is a small, self-contained story about what an Echo leaves behind, and how the people and Sparks living after it carry it forward.

Where to start

Echoes: Margins is the first published story in The Resonance. It's set in the Tanpura outpost, in The Hum.
